I Brake for Meltdowns

From : Psychjourney Podcasts
Dr. Lara Honos-Webb, host of The Sweet Spot Podcast, interviews Ms. Michelle Nicholasen, co-author of I Brake for Meltdowns: How to Handle the Most Exasperating Behavior of Your 2- to 5-year-old Michelle Nicholasen and Barbara O'Neal published by Da Capo Press. For nearly a decade Michelle Nicholasen produced documentaries for PBS, including award-winning films for NOVA and FRONTLINE. Her journalism has covered controversial science and public policy issues such as AIDS, autism, power lines, tobacco, breast implants and human evolution. Her mini-series on 20th century science for middle schoolers called A Science Odyssey: Short Trips, has won multiple awards including a Cine Golden Eagle. In 2004 she gave up her film career to raise five children under the age of five. How did this happen? After a 2-year battle with infertility, Michelle and her husband hit the IVF jackpot. She gave birth to her first daughter in 2001. Then, trying for a second child, she became pregnant with triplet girls. When the triplets were 10 months old, she became spontaneously (and impossibly) pregnant with her fifth child, a boy. Michelle survived an intense learning curve and decided to put all her little-kid behavior strategies, along with Barbara O'Neal's decades of wisdom, into a book to give a leg-up to other moms and dads. The struggle of the South Central Farmer continues, explained to us by spokesperson TEZOZOMOC. He reveals shocking bad-faith corruption on the part of (foie gras eating) LA Mayor Villaraigosa and others who literally sold out the farmers, all while pretending to support their cause. It's shocking and astonishing, and you don't want to miss it! Also - details on the new "GO VEGAN RADIO / SOUTH CENTRAL FARMERS SUPPORT PROGRAM 2008-2009" to help them maintain farmland they are leasing near Bakersfield. They need you to order USDA / CCOF certified organic, local, seasonal produce from them as part of this "Community-Supported Agriculture" (CSA) project. LISTEN FOR DETAILS. If interested in produce from the South Central Farmers, please email your name/phone number/email address to Bob@GoVeganRadio.com. Please put SOUTH CENTRAL FARMERS in the subject box. For those who cannot email, please call 818-623-6477 and leave name and phone number. A representative from the farmers will contact you, explain the program, and enroll you if you like. You'll certainly like the delicious fruits and vegetables, and you'll be helping to feed poor families who really need it! You pay what you can afford for a bushel-size box: $20, $25, $30, $35. If you can pay $40, you get a box, and a family in South Central GETS A BOX FOR FREE, and the 2nd box is tax-deductible for you. Pick up your box at one of the farmers' markets, or create your own drop-off location. Order one a week, bi-weekly, monthly - whatever you like. LISTEN FOR MORE DETAILS!

More and more patients are using fewer and fewer emergency rooms...and as a result, some patients are not getting proper care. That’s the gist of a new report from the Centers for Disease Control. On today’s Health Show, we’ll talk to the president of the American College of Emergency Physicians about the future of emergency medicine in the US. Then we’ll hear from the author of the book “Warrior Girls”. It’s a book he hopes will give parents and coaches a wake up call concerning what he labels an epidemic of injuries in women’s sports. And did you know not taking a vacation could be hazardous to your health. Hey, that’s our story and we’re sticking to it...and we have an expert to prove it!
The Health Show #1063

From : The Health Show
Sometimes we get surprised when a story in a medical journal strikes a chord with the general public and becomes a pretty hot topic. That happened this spring when a report in the Journal of the American Medical Association about the difficulty in finding potentially cancerous flat lesions during a colonoscopy ended up in newspapers and web sites around the world. On this week’s Health Show, we’ll talk to the lead author of that report. We’ll also talk to a leader in the field of infectious diseases in children about the importance of keeping your child’s vaccinations up to date. And we’ll hear about the efforts of relief workers in Afghanistan who are trying to vaccinate kids against polio.
